Dosage and Posology
Dosage depends on the type of fungal infection and the patient's age. For vaginal yeast infections it is usually 1 gm. It is recommended to take 100mg twice daily for 7 days.
Duration of Treatment
Fluconazole treatment for 7 days. The medication should be taken for 7 days, then again every 6 to 8 hours for 7 days. If treatment does not complete after 8 hours it is recommended to take the medication again. It should not be taken for more than 10 days unless advised by a doctor. Treatment should be repeated as advised by your doctor.
If you are taking it regularly for your cryptococcal infections it is recommended to take it at a higher dose (1 gm) in divided doses. It is not recommended to take it more often than once per day unless advised by a doctor.
Missed Dose
If you forget to take a dose of Fluconazole take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose. In this case, take your next dose at the usual time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time.
Overdose
In patients with liver impairment or other severe side effects a dose may be required in increments of 1 gm. In case of overdose treatment should be discontinued and medical treatment re-started.
